Small business exports on the increase

With British exports growth, experts think that this could be down to small businesses look for new markets, following the recent economic crisis.

According to the Forum of Private Business (FPB), the state of the British economy has encouraged small businesses to target new geographical areas, both nationally and internationally, in an attempt to extend their reach and expand their business.

Chris Gorman, media and PR assistant for the FPB, stated that this has lead to an increase in small business exports, quoting figures by the Confederation of British Industry, published earlier this week.

The CBI's small business trends survey indicated that this was the first significant growth in the export market for almost two-and-a-half years, with at least 36% of small firms seeing an increase in order volumes.

Mr Gorman added:

"In tough times, smaller businesses have to be especially innovative in order to survive as they don't have huge financial resources to fall back on like big companies do."

He believes that the falling value of the pound sterling, coupled with market-driven innovation, is helping small businesses to trade much more effectively. He went on to say:

"Perhaps this explains why the SME export market is particularly healthy."
